 Filmic Pro/Filmic Pro 2 Workflow

  1. Camera setup
    1. Tripod Mount
    2. Tripod
    3. Microphone/adapter on iPad or boom
  2. Settings > Slate Configuration > To taste; change with every setup, including reset Takes (see Note below)
  3. Check Audio
    1. rub finger on external mic and watch Audio Meter for a peak
    2. voice check with actors
    3. meters should go .5 to .75 with no red on meter
    4. Update shot list and/or QR Slate (choose a reliable person for this)
    5. Begin Filming with slate already in picture
      1. As large as possible
      2. Make sure all info is visible on slate
      3. Make sure the slate is ready before starting camera
    6. After slate, lock settings
      1. First White Balance, if necessary (blank paper OK)
      2. Exposure
      3. Focus
    7. Shoot Scene (multiple takes if necessary; slate will auto-increment)
    8. Back to Number 2 and repeat; good idea to re-lock WB, Exposure, and Focus every time you leave Settings
NOTE: In Filmic Pro, the slate seems to affect sound sync. Use with caution. In Filmic Pro 2, you can name clips with Project, Scene, and Take to help identify good takes for editing.

Filmic Pro 2 Tutorial

I made a tutorial covering Filmic Pro 2 but it ended up being 24 minutes long and nearly 500 MB; too big to view online. If you're interested, click the link below to download it. Then open in either QuickTime Player or iTunes. I've built in chapter markers (see picture above) so you can jump to whatever section you're interested in without watching the whole thing. Get it here (but do it from home):
