Meeting #2
General Information- iVIE 2017
- What's due from you this year (as agreed to in the contract submitted):
- The projects we work on at the meetings
- One iVIE video of at least 30 seconds in any category (also can be submitted to EYMF, CSMF)
- Honor System: For each meeting (starting tonight), submit the time you were actually here, rounded to the nearest half-hour (e.g. arrive at 3:44, submit 2 hrs; arrive 3:46, submit 1.5). FCP X Mentors add 1 hour to that.
- Master Class changes (thanks, Jen Z.):
- Sign up is on FCPX/Motion Resources tab, far right
- Master Class 1 (Multicam in FCP X; this isn't a change): October 17
- Master Class 2 (Motion) is now November 28 in Maple Room (was November 21)
- Master Class 4 (Motion) is now March 13 in Pine Room (was March 20)
- Move your PL Main Project Library to your external drive
- Close FCPX
- Look for the Library in your Movies Folder
- Drag Library onto your external drive to make a copy there
- When done, drag the original from Movies folder to Trash (but don't empty yet)
- Double-click the Library icon on your external drive to make sure all is good
- When satisfied all is good, empty Trash to re-gain hard drive space
Final Cut Pro X: Editing to the Storyline
- Editing to the Storyline (under Edit Menu)
- Append (E): adds selected clip to the end of the storyline
- Connect (Q): adds selected clip at the Skimmer location above the clip in the main storyline
- Insert (W): adds selected clip to main storyline at Skimmer position; splits existing clip not on edit point
- Overwrite (D): replaces content on main storyline at Skimmer position with selected clip
- Controlling what goes onto the storyline
- Audio and Video: Shift-1
- Video only: Shift-2
- Audio only: Shift-3
- Starting the project
- Playhead at beginning of project
- Select audio
- Press "q" [Connect Edit]; Gap clip goes on Main Storyline
- Markers on Music
- 3 Kinds of Markers
- M= Add Marker (or Option-M to add marker and edit Marker)
- Important: Skimmer over track to receive the Marker
- Cutting the Gap clip
- Command-B= Cut at Skimmer position
- Tip: even faster, hold down B key and click on Gap clip where it snaps to marker position
- Filling the Gap clips
- With Skimmer over section you want to select, press X to set storyline in and out points for that clip (look for the handles)
- Select the in point of the clip you want in that Gap clip (out point doesn't matter so long as the clip has enough footage) and press D to perform an overwrite edit
- This is called a 3-point edit
- Rinse and Repeat
For Next Meeting:
- Finish carefully putting Markers on the audio track where you want changes to occur
- Finish Bladeing the Gap clip at Marker positions
- Finishing building the rough cut of video clips over the audio track
- Don't be too concerned if the clip changes aren't perfectly timed; next month we'll fix that.
